Youth Workers
"No wonder so many
youth workers call it quits after 18 months. No
wonder volunteers decide to un-volunteer. What's
a wonder is how many youth workers decide to
stick it out. You keep going even when your
budgets are cut, your salaries lowered, and your
integrity questioned. Your lives have been
ruined by your callings. What can you do? You
just hang on because…well…because Jesus hung on
(if you know what I mean).
I'm in awe of
youth workers, and I think Jesus is, too.
I just wish the Church felt the same.
We're looking for some stories of outrageous,
outside-the-lines, unconventional youth ministry
events and programming; and we'd love it if
you'd share some of yours with us. We need you
to keep your description to a short paragraph
and we need you to send them to us by next
Tuesday, Jan. 31. Please send them to Ian:

You know that your students are vulnerable to
all sorts of hurts. Whether they're family
problems, depression, bullying, loneliness, or
other issues among the myriad of emotional
difficulties adolescents face, you know they're
in painand you want to help.
But how can you help them if you don't know how?
And more than that, how can you help them
without getting your church, organizationor
yourselfin trouble?

ministries are rooted in and explore what it
takes to be adults who live and lead
passionately.
Session 3--Creating a passionate youth
ministry
In ministry we learn that passion isn't
something we create--it's something we stir up;
something we ignite. In this session we will
show you practical ministry strategies and
programming ideas that will create the
conditions to fan the flames of passion in your
ministry.
We're coming to a

The Second Chance
"Same faith. Same City. Different worlds."
THE SECOND CHANCE, staring MICHAEL W. SMITH,
JEFF OBAFEMI CARR and directed by STEVE TAYLOR
is a new movie from Sony Pictures opening in 35
cities nationwide on February 17, 2006. The film
tells the story of a white church in a wealthy
suburb discovers that its "outreach" to an
inner-city black congregation is creating
resentment and distrust. This is the story of
how a rebellious son and a street-smart pastor
attempt to bridge the gap between their churches
and their cultures.
"To say that I enjoyed the film is a vast
understatement. I resonated with what I saw in
this great piece of work. Anyone who has ever
had a ministry in an inner city over an extended
period of time, has encountered just about every
one of the situations that came out in the
film." --TONY CAMPOLO
